The Thula Thula Rhino Sanctuary Foundation
Thula Thula rhinos, Thabo and Ntombi are both orphans who were relocated to Thula Thula from Moholoholo Rehab Centre ( Limpopo) in 2009 when they were 4 and 8 months old. Thabo and Ntombi were hand reared by caretakers during the 18 months after being rescued. At 18 months, they were released into the game reserve, but under high surveillance.
To fight against the highly organised crime of rhino poaching and to assist with the protection and preservation of Thula Thula’s two special rhinos, Françoise Malby Anthony, MD of Thula Thula Game reserve, established the Thula Thula Rhino Fund, (as a Chapter of Lawrence Anthony EarthOrg) in order to raise funds for guards’ anti-poaching training and much-needed specialized equipment, to ensure the on-going survival of our rhinos, as well as to save more orphaned rhinos in the future who will be rehabilitated into the wild at Thula Thula Game Reserve.
The Thula Thula Rhino Sanctuary will require 35 kms of electric fencing, a shelter with all the needed facilities where orphan rhinos will be welcomed and taken care of by volunteer veterinarian nurses.
